K2 (Karakorum 2)

 K2 is also known as Godwin Austin and in Balti (local) language it is called CHOGORI.

K2 is the second most highest mountain after Mount Everest.

It is situated at Shiger (village) of Gilgit Baltistan Pakistan.
Its elevation is  8611 m (28251 feet). It is the second mountain measured in the Karakorum range that's why its name is K2 (Karakorum 2).
First time discovered and measured in 1856.
 Sir Godwin Austin was the first person who surveyed K2 first time.

In Pakistan K2 have 4 camps without counting the base camp , after camp 4 it is the summit (end) point.

1. Camp 1 Abruzzi Route
2. Camp 2 House Chimney
3. Camp 3 The Black Pyramid 
4. Camp 4 The Shoulder  

Seasons:

K2 is open for tourists for only few months.These months are May , June , July and August.

Shandur : The highest polo ground of world.
       Shandur polo ground was made in 1935 by UK Administrator for Gilgit-Baltistan

shandur top is located in Gilgit Baltistan the famous tourist place through out the world.Gilgit baltistan is located in Pakistan.

It is situated 38000 meters above sea level.The world highest polo ground is situated over here.It is also famous & known for the Roof of the World.Shandur polo is also called free style polo.

As per polo is concern it is the famous and most favorite game of Gilgit Baltistan.

Shandur is 197 kilometers away from gilgit and 147 kilometers from Chitral.The route from Gilgit to Shandur is full of beauty places and amazing valleys like Gahkuch,Pandar and gupis.These places have God gifts like beautiful lakes,mountains and wildlife animals.

Polo ground of Shandur is not man made ground.it is naturally designed to be a polo ground.This ground is made by small hills around it all sides.These small hills are used by spectators to enjoy the matches.Shandur lake and the beauty of surrounding makes it more beautiful.

Shandur polo festival is very famous in entire world.it starts from 7 to 9 july at Shandur polo ground.Polo teams of Gilgit and Chitral come to face.Large number of spectators from different corners of world enjoy this match every year.This match is very hard and its very difficult for players to play at 12000 feet above sea level.

Shandur polo festival was frist held in 1936.The other acivites like paragliding,folk music, cultural dance are also held with polo matches.

Remember one thing if any one want to visit this beautiful place.Please don't forget to bring warm clothes beacuse it is cold over here in evening and night.
